USA, OH: Boston Beer to expand Cincinnati facility
The Boston Beer Company announced on July 27 plans to expand its Over-the-Rhine production facility in the coming months, WCPO reported.
The manufacturer of Samuel Adams beers stated the company planned to make significant investments to remodel the canning lines in the current plant located at 1625 Central Parkway in Cincinnati. The plan also calls for the construction of new building extensions on the north and south sides of the brewing plant.
The Boston Beer Co. anticipates the investment will take 18 months and create more than 100 new jobs in Cincinnati once completed.
"My hometown of Cincinnati has always played an important role in the Samuel Adams story," said Jim Koch, Samuel Adams founder & brewer in a press release. "After all, it is where I found my great, great grandfather’s recipe for what is now known as Samuel Adams Boston Lager and where we have brewed countless Boston Beer Company products since 1994. Senator Portman and the state of Ohio have been champions for the craft beer community and we’re grateful for their partnership and support."
The current Samuel Adams plant in Over-the-Rhine includes the Schoenling Brewery where Koch's father worked. Koch said the investment to the Samuel Adams plant also will include an exterior facade update and allow the company to quadruple the production of Samuel Adams, Angry Orchard, Twisted Tea and Truly Hard Seltzer in Cincinnati.
The expansion of Samuel Adams' Cincinnati plant was the result, in part, of negotiations between the Cincinnati Department of Economic and Community Development, JobsOhio and the Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI). Samuel Adams received a Job Creation Tax Credit from the Ohio Development Services Agency in support of the project and JobsOhio also plans to aid the project, according to the release.
"This significant investment is great news for Cincinnati at a time when good news is desperately needed," said United States Senator Rob Portman. "This expansion will create more than 100 jobs for my hometown, which will help boost the region’s economy . . . I’m pleased it is helping Samuel Adams reinvest more in their businesses and our communities. I will continue to work with craft breweries, like Samuel Adams, to ensure they have the resources and tools they need to grow their industry, starting with making the craft beverage excise tax relief permanent, which will, in turn, bolster Ohio’s economy and help Ohioans succeed and flourish."
The project will also create new parking areas for Samuel Adams employees and visitors and new routes for trucks when on-site to deliver ingredients or ship beer.
